What was a golden rule your dad taught you?

This was a critical phase, and the entire process was disturbed, and any variation in quality would ruin my chances of succeeding.
I was sitting anxiously in my father’s office, overthinking about my circumstances, and craving for that operator, my father who knew why I was stressed said-
‘What if this operator died? Would you still look upon him or stay anxious for him? I am sure you will quickly move on and look for alternatives. Whenever your mind gives over-importance to people, or people around you show over-importance, remember that anyone can die any second, and would never return, and then calm yourself, don't stay stuck and look at alternatives and move on to the next best option.’
His words had a negative tone but touched my mind.
Since then, I have stopped relying on people too much, if someone leaves, I think that separation is inevitable and could be permanent also and I start looking for alternative without wasting time.
