Young men hack into pipelines to steal crude which they refine using makeshift refineries.
Crude Oil bunkering is common in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria.
On average this persons could make $60 per day after selling the finished products —petrol and kerosene to the locals and sometimes smuggled abroad on a large scale.
Their ingenuity deserve an accolade but the host community and the environment suffers so much that such persons are met with a iron fist.
According to reports 3 persons were said to have been killed by that fire.
This is more like disrespect to death.
Even death would be angry for being abused like this.
This persons practically walk into death with all senses.
The people who live around this places are mostly fishers but the oil has contaminated the River and most of the fishes are dead or gone.
With a government that never stops to deflate the erection of the masses coupled with conning oil companies who never stop to exploit the locals.
These people can't help but tap into the oil business to stay alive.
They have the Nigerian military and the frequent fire outbreak from their own refineries to deal with every single day as they go about their business.
Until Nigeria’s elites stop thieving the country’s oil wealth, I can’t see how they will persuade the unemployed youths of the delta to stop this dangerous activity.
I can only ask them to think about their safety, the host communities and the environment.
There is always a better way!
