On Wednesday, June 3, a cyclone might hit the coastal areas of Maharashtra. The Meteorological Department has put Mumbai and surrounding districts on high alert. The Chief Minister's Office said that Home Minister Amit Shah has spoken to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray over video conferencing and has reviewed the preparedness of the state.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) informed that nine teams have been deployed in the most affected districts of the state. NDRF has deployed rescue teams in three teams in Mumbai, two in Palghar, one in Thane, one in Raigad, one in Ratnagiri, and one in Sindhudurg.
NDRF is working closely with the Relief and Rehabilitation Department of the Government of Maharashtra. NDRF is already preparing its efforts with the local authorities of these districts.
NDRF Director General SN Pradhan said that Nisarg is a terrible cyclone and is expected to blow at speeds of 90-100 kmph. Pradhan told that he along with his team are working to evacuate people from the coastal areas of Maharashtra and Gujarat.
The NDRF said that the Coronavirus crisis is also going on in the country, so it will be our endeavor not to cut power during this crisis. The Chief Minister's Office said in a statement that fishermen have been asked to return from the sea so that no one is killed in this cyclone.
The statement said that the hospitals which are not treating the coronavirus patients are prepared for the people affected by the cyclone. On Monday, the Indian Meteorological Department warned that there was less pressure on the Arabian Sea and it could take a cyclone form in the next 36 hours.
The Meteorological Department said that by the evening of June 3, the cyclone might hit coastal areas of North Maharashtra and South Gujarat.
