Coronavirus in Mumbai: Drive-thru test to promote social distancing

Coronavirus in Mumbai: Drive-thru test to promote social distancing

Mumbai: Amid the worsening coronavirus pandemic, more and more citizens want to test themselves for the deadly disease. However, the testing itself possesses sufficient risk of being exposed to the virus.

To test more people with minimum risk, the civic body has roped in private parties and introduced a new way of testing called ‘drive-thru testing’. Unlike standing in long queues, this new pattern is just like collecting food from a drive-through of a food joint as here one need not step out of their vehicle.

After reaching the facility, one just needs to roll down their car windows after which their nasal / throat swab sample is taken through the car window – the entire process takes about five to ten minutes.

The test results will be emailed to the customer, and if the test results come out positive then they can proceed with further treatment. However, the civic body has set up a few norms for the test. A doctor’s prescription is must. If somebody doubts that they have symptoms of Covid-19, they should first consult with their doctor.

ing the doctor’s approval for the test, the patient should call on the toll-free numbers of either BMC or private healthcare centres. The patient will be given a token number, which will tell where the tests are being conducted and the timing of his test. The civic body has set up ‘drive-thru’ centres at its parking lots in Byculla, Dadar, Parel, Vikhroli, Borivali and Mulund.

“As active Covid cases in Mumbai are increasing exponentially, the drive-thru concept work as a great tool to fast-track sample collection," said Ravi Aggarwal, Regional COO – South, West, Central India and International business, SRL Diagnostics. SRL Diagnostics has set up a toll-free number (1800 222000) for making the drive thru test appointment.

Probing If Coronavirus Emerged From Wuhan Lab’, Says Donald Trump

‘Probing If Coronavirus Emerged From Wuhan Lab’, Says Donald Trump

Trump said, “They talk about a certain kind of bat, but that bat wasn’t in that area if you can believe this.”

Washington| The United States President Donald Trump said that the US is looking into the reports to confirm whether the novel coronavirus, which has taken over 1,50,000 lives globally till now, “escaped” from the lab in China’s Wuhan.

“We’re looking at it, a lot of people are looking at it. It seems to make sense,” Trump told reporters at the daily Covid-19 briefing on Friday. He was answering a question on whether there was an investigation to confirm that the novel coronavirus escaped from a lab in China’s Wuhan.

He said, “They talk about a certain kind of bat, but that bat wasn’t in that area if you can believe this. That bat wasn’t sold at that wet zone. That bat is 40 miles away.”

Earlier on Friday, Fox News had reported that the United States is running a full-scale investigation into whether the coronavirus escaped from a lab in Wuhan.

Trump referring to the same, said, “A lot of strange things are happening, but there is a lot of investigation going on and we are going to find out. “All I can say is wherever it came from, came from China in whatever form, 184 countries now are suffering because of it.”

Trump also added that the US would shortly end its grant to a level-IV lab in China’s Wuhan.

“(The) Obama administration gave them a grant of USD 3.7 million. We will end that grant very quickly,” the US President said.

Meanwhile, a lawmaker and Congressman James Smith accused China of covering-up the coronavirus issue.

“The communist Chinese government’s cover-up of the coronavirus outbreak allowed this virus to spread unchecked, threatening the health and stability of the free world. They must be held accountable,” James Smith said.

He further added, “When people in Wuhan began to fall ill with a mysterious SARS-like illness, instead of working to contain the virus, the Chinese Communist Party ruthlessly worked to contain the spread of information. This secrecy endangered millions of lives.”
