International Nurses day is going to celebrate on 12th May worldwide. International Nurses Day is celebrated on 12th May on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale to present an honor to her contribution to modern nursing. This year we are going to celebrate the 200th birth anniversary of Florence nightingale. The theme for the “International Nurses Day-2020 is “Nurses: A voice to lead – Nursing the World to Health”.
Florence Nightingale was the lady who formed the modern nursing system. She was born on 12th May 1820 in a well-established British family. She was a British social reformer and statistician. In her social activity, she did many remarkable works like healthcare improvement for all sections of British society, hunger relief in India, helped to abolish prostitution laws unfair for women, and female participation in the workforce.
She became a prominent person when she contributed as manager and trainer of nurses during the Crimean war. During this war, she served in a well-organized manner. She treated and served care to the wounded soldiers with her nursing staff. She came to the soldiers at night with a lamp to do her responsibility, that’s why she became popular as “The Lady with the Lamp”. She played a significant role to give a deserving reputation to nursing in that time, and eventually she became an icon in Victorian culture. In 1860 Nightingale started professional nursing and established a nursing school at St. Thomas’s Hospital in London. This school became the first secular nursing school in the world. At present this is the part of King’s College London. Because of her incredible contribution of modern nursing her birth date 12th May was obtained as International Nurses Day by the International Red Cross committee. In her honor, the Florence Nightingale medal is given to the nurses for their achievements excellent services which is the highest award of this profession.
Now if we talk about the present situation, everyone knows what the deadly situation has been facing by the entire world. During this critical time, we all are aware of the importance of nursing staff to handle the situation. No one can deny the efforts of their team that they put to manage and save the lives of people.
Nursing is a Nobel profession that is focused on the health care of people, families, and communities so that they can manage to live a quality of life with optimal health. Today there are many professional courses for nursing provided by the reputed institution to improve the quality of work and face the challenges with better efficiency. Apart from health care and technical health instruments monitoring on their workplace, many other tasks are there which are performed by nurses. Let’s have a look at their duties, which are as follows.

- Many patients who are suffering from multiple, multifaceted health conditions like diabetes, obesity, heart problems, kidney disease, and dementia. Nurses have to choose the appropriate medical specialization.
- Nurses are very concerned about patient health, so the needs according to the complication are the prime duties of her. Sometimes to manage with their faces she has to advocate the patients.
- Nurse teach the patients about their health problems, medication, and about the things what should they have to do. This all they explain clearly and calmly, like a teacher.
We cannot just imagine managing or to have a strong and healthy vision of growth without the support of nurses. So, we should not forget the contribution of them what they have been giving on the ground level for many years. To cooperate with them and honor them is our moral responsibility.
