In reality, Tesla is just like another car, but 10x better in every sense. I own a white ModelX which is very difficult to maintain clean, so I get it carwash almost every week. You need to make sure that you don’t put high pressure directly on the camera and sensors, but apart from that it is completely normal to wash and clean. Make sure that you end the wash with distilled water so there is no flaking on the pristine clean beauty.

It appears that washing your Tesla with water is not seen as environment-friendly by many, due to the perception that all water used is wasted. I would like to emphasize that car washes in Switzerland are very eco-friendly and achieve as much as 90% recycling due to the use of mild detergents and better recycling technology (source). I drive a Tesla because I care for the environment. If you really care, please consider not driving or riding a diesel/gas car because they cause much more harm to the environment. The energy used to charge my car comes from clean Solar and Wind sources as I mostly charge in the day at my office using excess solar energy.
Secondly, the reason I started with a completely opposite narrative about washing your Tesla is that this is what I hear most from the common population. Can you charge your car in the Rain/Snow? Can you wash your car with water? These are the question I hear most often. The paid media today is hell biased to run a smear campaign against Tesla because it is winning the race of electric vehicles by huge margins. The media will go to any extent to prove that Teslas are unreliable, impractical, provide bad after-sale service and not usable generally due to electric charging limitations. I switched over to Tesla from a BMW and I can very well say based on my personal experience of driving 10,000 km is that Tesla is a much better car in every aspect. Regarding Build quality, yes the panel gaps may be uneven and there are some other issues reported by owners, however, a wide majority of Tesla owners (including myself) are extremely satisfied from the cars and would not go to anything else at the moment.
Lastly, the switch to Electric Vehicle from the Internal Combustion Engine is as fundamental as transition from the Horsecart to the first automobile. If you believe electric cars are not ready for mainstream yet, you are simply ignoring the facts. The mass transition to EV has already begun and Tesla is the undisputed leader in it.
