Indian AirForce cancelled a one thousand crore defence deal with United States to promote Self Reliant
In an interview with ANI, Air Force Chief RKS Vadoria said the Air Force was to buy more modern engines from the United States for 70 Jaguar bombers. But that quote has been canceled to be self sufficient in defense. This time the engine will be modernized from the government aircraft manufacturer HAL. The chief of staff also said that 36 Pilot trainer aircraft from Switzerland and Hawk aircraft from Britain would not be purchased to encourage domestic manufacturers. It is learned that instead of buying Pilot trainer aircraft for Rs 1,000 crore, the Air Force will buy 70 HTT-40 aircraft manufactured by HAL this time. The planes will be used to train pilots.
It should be mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a 'self reliant' financial package of 20 lakh crore rupees to combat the epidemic. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman outlined the package in detail on Wednesday. There have been calls for a ban on the import of some military equipment. In addition, the Center has agreed to direct investment in the defense sector. Note that India is one of the most important buyers in the world arms market. The importance of New Delhi to Russian and US arms manufacturers is immense. In such a situation, only time will tell how the Modi government will handle the strategic reckoning by getting involved in arms imports.
