Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has informed that from May 25, airlines will be launched in the country in a phased manner. For this, they have asked airports and airlines to be ready. International flights in the country are closed from 23 March and domestic flights from 25 March. The home ministry on Wednesday removed domestic air travel from its list of prohibited activities during the lockdown.
Puri had said on Tuesday that the central government cannot decide alone on resuming passenger flights and state governments should be prepared to allow these services in the spirit of collaborative federalism.
Ban on international flights continues
There has been an order for the operation of domestic flights, but the international flights will continue to be banned. There are about 20 airports in the country, from where international flights operate. In view of the havoc of Corona worldwide, it has been decided to discontinue international flights.
Guidelines (SOP) issued a week ago
The Civil Aviation Ministry issued the guidelines (SOPs) a week ago. Under this, in the first phase, the passengers were told which things to take care of. Apart from this, guidelines were also issued for administration.
The check in at the SOP included guidelines such as carrying just one bag, no bags inside the aircraft. Apart from this, it was also said to be mandatory for the Arogya Setu App. Employees on duty will have to wear PPE kit and web check-in only and passengers will also have to wear masks, gloves, shoes, PPE kit etc. The three front seats in the flight should be reserved for passengers with medical emergencies.
SpiceJet chairman welcomed the decision
SpiceJet Chairman and Managing Director Ajay Singh said, "We welcome the government's decision to resume operations of domestic flight services from 25 May." This decision will prove far-reaching in strengthening the overall economic environment in the country.
While the details of the SOP and flights are still awaited for resumption of operations, we are confident that this much-awaited move will provide the safest and quickest transportation to a large number of passengers. The epidemic has severely affected the aviation sector and several countries including India decided to suspend commercial flights altogether. However, cargo aircraft, medical emergency flights and other special flights sanctioned by DGCA were permitted during this period.
