THEY INCLUDE:

SA-6 or 2K12 'Kub': A Soviet-Era Low-to-Medium level SAM. This system has become nearly obsolete and would be soon phased out by Inducting more Akash systems.

SA-3 or S-125 'Pechora': Another piece of Soviet-era military tech which has become nearly obsolete in the current war scenario.

SA-8 'Gecko Mod-1' or 9K33 'OSA-AKM': Highly mobile, short range, low-level SAM of Soviet origin.

SA-13 'Gopher'

ZSU-23-2 & ZSU-23-4 'Shilka': The former is a twin cannon Anti Air gun and the latter a Light armoured, Self-propelled, Anti-Aircraft gun.

these are all SOVIET ERA AIR DEFENCE SYSTEM and have become nearly obsolete but still they are guarding the IAF base near Pakistan border thanks to the negiligence of the armed forces by the UPA regime.

the present goverment has taken various steps to solve this problem but as we all know DEFENCE AQUISITION in india is very time consuming hence these equipments still stand guarding our borders.

IN FUTURE they will likely be replaced by:

AAKASH SRSAM

BARAK 8 MRSAM

S400 LRSAM

TOR M2 SRSAM

THESE missile systems and better RADARS are all in the process of induction and will completely be introduced till 2022.

Hence the air force has to rely on its fighter jets and other combat aircrafts on patrolling duty to shoot down any hostile enemy aircraft.

the MIG 21 which fell because of engine failure on combat air patrolling(CAP)duty at that time when the pakistani jet crossed into the LOC.

this was the 1958’s SOVIET ERA upgraded MIG 21 aircraft which brought down the F 16 multirole fighter.

although these aircrafts are old they are very good interceptors since they

can attain a speed of mach 2+ within 2 mins of take off.

hence they were able to bring down the superior F 16.
