"SPG" and "Z+" security

• SPG category – Strength of security detail is Classified (only provided to the current and former Prime Ministers of India and their immediate family members.)The SPG, an elite force of approximately 3,000, are protecting only Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The SPG was set up or the security of prime ministers and their families in 1985, a year after Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her bodyguards.On 8th November 2019, Government of India decided to withdraw SPG Cover from Gandhi Family and accorded them with Z+ Security.

SPG works on the motto of “Zero Error” and “Culture of Excellence”. SPG personnel have always discharged their duties and responsibilities with devotion, dedication, hard work and courage within India and in foreign territories. Each SPG personnel dedicate himself completely to uphold the integrity of the nation and the spirit behind SPG motto “Shauryam Samarpanam Surakshanam” (i.e. bravery, devotion and protection).

Since inception of SPG, the saga of bravery is very well established. SPG officers have been so far awarded by 01 Shaurya Chakra, 39 President’s Police Medals for distinguished Service and 297 Police Medals for Meritorious Service.

• Z+ category has a security cover of 55 personnel [Including 10+ NSG Commando] + [Police Personnel] Congress president Sonia Gandhi, her children Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will now have Z Plus category.
