Imagine the same scenario, but without Social Media.
Imagine there are just 1–2 news channels. One is run by Prannoy Roy, the other is anchored by Rajdeep Sardesai and Barkha Dutt.
Now, in 2002 a train bogey full of Hindus were torched to the ground, yet when someone retaliated, the entire blame was put on them and the whole world blamed only the Hindus to be solely responsible for the riots.
Modi is named the “Butcher of Gujarat”
Coming to 2020, a person named Shahrukh is caught after he fired bullets at the Police and Pro CAA processions (videos and pictures exist). Imagine a Police Officer was shot (yes, HC Ratan Lal’s death was reported to have been caused by a bullet in the post mortem), an IB officer, Ankit Sharma’s bullet-ridden body, with severe injuries (indicating a painful, merciless death) was found in the gutter. Images coming out with people wearing skull caps and shouting Allah Hu Akbar attacking with stones and guns. But still, somehow, the entire blame is put on Hindus. Shahrukh is given a Hindu name in their posts,
Newspapers clip out skull caps so as to protect the identity of the community,
Sometimes, despite showing their skull caps and all they are deliberately named as Hindus.
The community carries out its work, their friendly media persons (Rajdeep, Barkha, Kapri, et al) protect them in their stories, Self proclaimed liberals (Swara, Rana, Anurag Kashyap et al) defend the community and put the blame entirely on Hindus.
Now, imagine the same scenario, without social media. All this happening, while the ecosystem was on the news, our only source of information, blaming Modi, RSS and Hindus for being the suppressors of the community.
Modi would definitely be called the “Butcher of India” by now.
